Long important post….Most of my life I’ve felt

Long important post….Most of my life I’ve felt othered and less than, all the while looking for validation and acceptance in all the places that were outside of me.
Looking for love from my step family (which they gratefully extended) , looking for acceptance from my highly competitive and institutionalized first career in classical music.
Never seeking my own inner authority or identity. I didn’t think it was possible.
No wonder I went into branding - learning how to present one’s self in Work. And now into astrology in leadership - healing the ways I never saw my own power or authority.
It’s my answer to what has felt like a lifelong denial of power and othered identity via society — so strategically designed by the powers that be, rooted in colonialism.
My career now is rooted in empowering myself and others around me to shake off the often invisible effects of colonization.
Up until 2020, I suffered from what I now know was Colonial Mentality, defined as the perception of ethnic and cultural inferiority and a form of internalized racial oppression.
I am now proud of my Filipino and Jewish heritage, but for so many years, I felt it was something to hide.
Something to be ashamed of, to avoid learning about because it made me stick out in a way that led to non acceptance.
I couldn’t reconcile how beautiful a part of my identity was, because I was so focused on conforming — another product of colonialism.
To colonize is to separate.
People from places, people from each other, people from their culture and people from themselves.
To stratify and categorize. It’s why we have so much division today between connecting to one another as our true selves.
